Mission and Priorities
Mission:
The Hamilton-Wentworth Occasional Teacher Local aims to provide quality professional, protective and administrative services to members by promoting a high level of professional ethics and competence valuing the work of its members and officers.
- The Local actively promotes public education and the teaching profession.
- The Local endeavours to raise the profile of the organization and its members through partnerships, participation, and engagement of both the employer and the broader community.
- The Local seeks to co-operate, liaise and build networks with other like-minded organizations throughout the Federation, the labour community and the broader society.
Priorities:
The following statement is representative of the priorities of both our local (HWOTL) and ETFO:
- To represent members of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario - Hamilton-Wentworth Occasional Teacher Local
- To regulate relations between the members of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario Hamilton-Wentworth Occasional Teacher Local and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board including but not limited to securing and maintaining through collective bargaining, the best possible terms and conditions of employment
- To advance the cause of education and the status of occasional teachers in the Local
- To promote a high standard of professional ethics and a high standard of professional competence
- To foster a climate of social justice and provide leadership in such areas as anti-poverty, nonviolence and equity to promote and protect the interests of all members of the Local and the students in their care and to co-operate with other organizations having the same and like objectives
